Market Commentary: VN-INDEX slightly increased 0.3% despite early trading sell-off
The VN-INDEX gained 3.4pts to end in the green with support from major market pillars. Following the downward momentum in the previous session, Vietnam’s main stocks index began today’s session cautiously and quickly fell to its intraday low of 1,337.5pts (-1.4%) as selling pressure emerged and targeted Real Estate and Consumer Staples’ stocks. VIC (-1.8%) and VHM (-0.9%) continued to have a disappointing session, dragging the index by 2.8pts. Large caps from Consumer Staples and other sectors also lost ground, led by SAB (-1.8%), VNM (-0.9%), MSN (-1.2%), VPB (-1.2%), and TCB (-1.0%). However, the index quickly returned to the green territory after daybreak thanks to the support from several market pillars. Notably, GVR (+5.9%), GAS (+2.2%) became today’s top movers, contributing 3.1pts to the index’s gain. Other Financials large caps also joined the rally, including MBB (+3.1%), BID (+1.3%), and LPB (+5.4%). The index reached its intraday high of 1,364.5pts (+0.6%) during the afternoon session and ended in the green at 1,359.9pts (+0.3%). The HNX-INDEX also climbed 1.1% to 317.1pts.
